Eyes of Wakanda: a small marvel series (critic)

The anthology animated in 4 25 -minute episodes is sorely lacking in relief and issues. She will only interest absolute fans of the MCU, eager to know more about the country of Black Panther.

If you liked Predator: Killer of Killers

A few weeks after the release of the animation anthology dedicated to mandible hunters, Disney Plus opens our eyes to the Wakanda.

A whole new Marvel series – Technically, it is the first series of phase 6 of the MCU – has just been put online on the platform. Eyes of Wakanda Explore the deep roots of the superior African kingdom, in an animated series sober, effective and rich in a historical context. Over four episodes of around thirty minutes, this anthology follows the “war dogs” of the mysterious Hatut Zerazeorganization bringing together secret agents of the country of Black Panthersent to the four corners of the earth to recover artifacts in vibranium lost on the planet, century after century. As with Predator: Killer of Killerseach vignette invites a marvel warrior in the history of the world, from antiquity to colonization. The idea being to tell the wakanda, without going through the prism of its legendary Black Panther (very little present on arrival).

The concept is clever. Intriguing. At times entertaining. And the series adds to the passage an interesting layer of depth to the mythology of this major nation of the MCU.

But let’s say it, it has very little interest for those who look at the Marvel Universe from afar.

The animation is a bit laborious, not to say lazy. If a particular care has been taken to graphics and colors, the staging is often painful and lack of fluidity. Eyes of Wakanda is not at the level of the other animated anthology of the studio, What if …?neither in form nor on the bottom.

The perilous missions of agents Wakandais Driven in a very tight narration (all of this is less than 2 hours) which prevents the series from finding rhythm and meaning. The whole sounds desperately hollow, a saga of spy without tension, without issues. Eyes of Wakanda would have made a perfect DVD bonus of Black Panther. But it is too inconsistent to be worthy of an original series in its own right of Disney Plus.
