Fantômas resurrects! A reboot event will bring Guillaume Canet and Romain Duris face to face

Frédéric Tellier will direct this new film from January 2026.

The legendary masked criminal returns to haunt Paris!

Nearly sixty years after the cult trilogy which brought together Jean Marais and Louis de Funès in an unforgettable comic-police hunt, Ghosts offers itself a new life.

It is the director Frédéric Tellier (to whom we owe Goliath, The SK1 Affair) who will be in charge. Filming is scheduled for January 2026 in the capital. And it will be carried by a 5-star cast!

Guillaume Canet and Romain Duris will face each other. It remains to be seen which one will play Commissioner Paul Juve and which one will play Jérôme Fandor, alias Ghosts. The rest of the cast will also include Lyna Khoudri (of the Three Musketeers) and Louis Peres (The Sentinels) in a muscular period thriller which aims to resurrect the mythical figure created in 1911 by Marcel Allain and Pierre Souvestre.

Note that the film will mark the first collaboration of Guillaume Canet and Romain Duris on screen.

Produced by SND and Wassim Beji (Black box) via Wy Productions, the film is expected in theaters in 2027, with no release date yet.

Ghostshe is one of the most famous anti-heroes of French popular literature, on the same level as Arsène Lupine (already played by Duris in the cinema). Master of disguise, elusive thief and faceless assassin, he inspired Louis Feuillade’s silent series in 1913, then the famous pop and burlesque trilogy of the 1960s. He also fascinated Guillaume Apollinaire, who saw in him a symbol of modern chaos.

This new version, ambitious and spectacular, will take place in 1914, in a climate of political tension and violence. While a series of bloody crimes terrorizes the city, Commissioner Juve sets out in pursuit of a man without motive, without face, without identity: Fantômas. “In an era filled with fear and uncertainty, Juve comes up against an enemy that defies all logic”announces the synopsis.

“With this film, I wish to offer a new perspective while remaining faithful to the timeless essence of the character. It is an honor to follow in the tradition of filmmakers who have brought this mythical anti-hero to the screen, and to introduce him to a new generation of spectators”, dsays Frédéric Tellier.

The film will bring together Glynn Speeckaert (Originally) in the photo, Florian Sanson (Holy Motors) to the artistic direction, Olivier Bériot (Lupine) to the costumes and Frédéric Cambon (Lupine, John Wick 4) to the artistic direction. The music will be signed Guillaume Roussel, already at work on The Three Musketeers And Dog 51while the special effects will be produced by Atelier 69 (Titanium).

“With more than 30 novels, 13 films and multiple adaptations, Fantômas has crossed eras and borders”underlines Ramy Nahas, international sales director at SND. “Like The Count of Monte Cristo, it is a timeless work destined to become the next great global blockbuster.”
