François Ozon: “Women aged 70/80 are invisible in cinema”

The director of When Autumn Comes stars Hélène Vincent and Josiane Balasko.

By presenting his new film When autumn comes has First, François Ozon regretted the little place given to older actresses in current cinema.

“Women aged 70 and 80 are invisible in cinema, he tells us in the video below. I think it’s a shame to deprive ourselves of the beauty of life on faces. It was important to have the truth of the faces and bodies in this story.”

The French filmmaker recalls that he has always offered roles to women of all ages, citing Danielle Darrieux in 8 womenfor example, then he remembers the bad advice he received when preparing Under the sand :

“We had a lot of trouble putting together this film, because everyone told us: She’s too old, no one will be interested, choose a younger actress… She was only fifty, I don’t know if you can imagine! Still, things have changed a little…”
