Freelance: John Cena on a mission for the director of Taken (trailer)
The wrestling star goes into survival mode in the tropical jungle.
Action, big muscles and explosions: this is what the trailer for Freelancethe next film by Pierre Morel (Taken, 2008). Headlining: John Cena, the wrestling superstar who has become a staple in Hollywood in recent years. He plays Mason Petit, a retired elite Ranger brooding over a past fiasco. Trying to convert himself into a lawyer, he abruptly left his routine for an ultimate mission: to exfiltrate a journalist (played by Alison Brie) from a fictitious Latin American dictatorship in the midst of a coup d’etat.
Obviously, after having tried to refuse the mission, the actor of Fast & Furious will finally give in to the tidy reward. Of course, nothing is going to go as planned and the duo, accompanied by actor Juan Pablo Raba who plays the South American dictator, will have to survive in the tropical jungle and face many obstacles.
The trailer leans fully towards high-performance action-comedy. The scenes of violence are always punctuated by a gag. After his sour cameo in Barbie, John Cena reinvested a niche that corresponds to him, similar to his character of Peacemaker (The Suicide Squadin 2021, and the series Peacemaker, in 2022). He is ready to bring out the big guns and blow up everything with humor and self-mockery. Freelance will be released on October 6 in the United States and will soon be available in France on Amazone Prime Video.
