How will Hideo Kojima be involved in the film Death Stranding?
The video game creator explains that he will have an eye on his “baby” but does not intend to interfere with the development of the feature film for cinema.
While there is no shortage of projects on the video game side – starting with Death Stranding 2which comes out in a few days on PS5 – Hideo Kojima said in a recent interview to Variety how he intends to manage his involvement in the cinema adaptation of Death Strandingdeveloped in collaboration with A24.
“I think I will help produce the film-I have to somehow guide the project-but I will not be able to do it myself, for reasons of timetable.”
The awesome video game director explains having “designed Death Stranding Like a game, so transforming it into a film, it’s something totally different. But it’s my baby, so I want to keep an eye on the project. “
Kojima thus assures that he does not intend to interfere unnecessarily in the creative process:
“I work with A24 and Michael Sarnoski, who will write and make the film. I want to let them work without getting too involved, because I could end up putting sticks on the wheels. I don’t want to come and ask them to change everything, it would be moved. I have to trust them – and I trust them.”
On the artistic side, the project therefore advances under the leadership of Michael Sarnoski (Pig,, Without a noise: day 1), which will bring the world of cult game to the screen as a screenwriter and director. Production is ensured by Kojima US Productions,, Allan Ungar (known for short film UNCHARTED with Nathan Fillion), as well as Ari Aster (Midsommar,, Heredity) Via his company Square Peg. No casting announced yet. An outing is scheduled for the cinema for 2027.
