Canal+ will invest nearly a billion euros in French cinema in the years to come
A new historic agreement guarantees nearly a billion euros of investment in French and European creation until 2032.
After the controversy that shook up the last Cannes Film Festival and the tensions between the different parties, the time has now come for appeasement.
Canal+ and professional cinema organizations have just signed a historic new agreement, intended to secure funding for French creation for the next five years.
The Canal+ group (Canal+ and Ciné+ OCS) is committed to investing 980 million euros between 2028 and 2032 in French and European cinema. In exchange, the channel will retain its privileged place in the media chronology, with the possibility of broadcasting films six months after their theatrical release.

Signed with the BLIC, the first members of the BLOC and the ARP, this agreement intends to preserve the model of French cultural exception while offering long-term visibility to the entire sector. It provides in particular for reinforced support for first films, new authors, animated works, films of diversity, so-called “middle” productions as well as the most ambitious projects intended for the general public. The signatories also promise to better support the promotion of works to spectators.
For the industry, this commitment constitutes a strong signal after several months of uncertainty. By guaranteeing nearly a billion euros of investments over five years, Canal+ confirms that it will remain the leading partner of French cinema in a period where financing and distribution methods continue to profoundly evolve.
