Margaret Qualley and Josh Brolin are also in the cast of this post-apocalyptic film tinged with melancholy and hope.
Following its presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, the trailer for The Dog Stars was put online. We finally have a first glimpse of Ridley Scott’s new film, which features Jacob Elordi as a survivor of a world decimated by a pandemic.
Adapted from the novel of the same name by Peter Heller (The Dog Constellation in French), The Dog Stars benefited from a budget of 110 million dollars and a five-star cast which also included Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce and Allison Janney.
Synopsis: In a lawless post-apocalyptic world, Hig, a young pilot, has created a protected but isolated home with the help of Bangley, a military survivalist. One day, a mysterious radio transmission pushes him to venture to the frontiers of the unknown in search of a final hope…
Ridley Scott is an immense director, but he remains on a series of commercial and critical failures (House of Gucci, Napoleon, Gladiator 2). The Dog Stars will he manage to break this dynamic? The film, initially scheduled for March and postponed for several months, arrives preceded by a worrying buzz. According to insider Jeff Sneider, the projections have not been conclusive and some reactions even make us fear the worst.
In Esquirethe filmmaker explains his vision and his desire to stand out from traditional post-apo films:
“There have been far too many apocalyptic films. And I think I started strong with Blade Runneryears ago. Blade Runner carried infinite despair. There, I am very happy to have succeeded in producing a strong feeling of hope. It’ll be OK. If you do things right, it’s like in the expression: help yourself and heaven will help you.“
The Dog Stars will be released in cinemas in France on August 26, 2026. Trailer:
