James Cameron teases the emotional issues of Avatar 3 and the return of Toruk
Of fire and ash will also address mourning, warns the director, and not as in superhero films …
It was the revelation of the new trailer forAvatar: fire and ashunveiled on September 25 (video below). Jake (Sam Worthington) will find this good old Toruk, an ally of weight to deal with the threat of Colonel Quaritch, nasty na’vi of the people of the ashes or even Tulkun hunters.
“”Our Toruk is back“Enthuses James Cameron in an interview recently granted to Variety. “”Do you know, the big bird that Jake goes up in the first avatar? I was waiting for this question, why is he not going to look for the big red bird and kills everyone as he had done? Because it does not exist in The waterway. “
In the first AvatarJake Sully is rejected by the Omaticayas when he tries to convince them to abandon their mother tree before the attack on humans, led by Colonel Quaritch. He then tries everything for everything and tames a large Leonopteryx, the greatest predator in Pandora. He became the Toruk Makto, the rider of the last shadow, and brings together an alliance of Na’vi clans to lead the resistance to the occupier.
But Toruk was not at the start supposed to appear in Avatar 3explains the director:
“”I have a big scoop. It didn’t exist in fire and ashes either. And I told myself that he had to get the bird. I kept that for a next film. And I said fucking bring me the toruk. There is something in Jake’s destiny that imposes it, right? So I rewritten and we shot two or three scenes around this concept. I turned things to get it. The film lasts 3 hours by the way, big surprise! But it works wonderfully, the actors loved this idea.“”
What can we expect from this 3rd part of the saga? Without saying too much, Cameron wanted to specify that the consequences of the death of Neteyam, the eldest son of Jake and Neytiri, would be an important element of the film. The opportunity for the filmmaker to give a little tackle to the competition:
“”In superhero movies, mourning is not really treated, because it prevents you from enjoying all cool things. I wanted to be very authentic with the emotions of the characters. I want them to be true. (…) I have five children, Sam has three, Zoe has three boys. And in real life losing a child is an inconceivable thing that we all fear. In the real world it tears a marriage. There are reproaches, mourning interferes and many marriages do not survive it. So we have the story of ultimate love, like Romeo and Juliet, or Smith and Pocahontas on another planet. And they face a challenge. Will their relationship survive?“”
