Kevin Feige advised Hugh Jackman against returning to Deadpool & Wolverine
But the actor listened to his heart and answered Ryan Reynolds' call.
Seven years later Logan, Hugh Jackman springs the claws to Deadpool & Wolverine. The X-Men star revealed his return almost two years ago, in September 2022, to the delight of fans and his friend Ryan Reynolds. But the big boss of Marvel, Kevin Feigehe was not at all convinced.
In the new issue ofEmpireKevin Feige remembers his reaction:
“I said, 'let me give you some advice, Hugh. Don “t come back. You had the best ending in history with Logan. It's not something we should go back on.'”
But Hugh Jackman reassured James Mangold, the director of Logan. The clawed mutant's tragic end will not be impacted by his return to Deadpool 3, since it will simply be another Wolverine. “That's right“, confirms Kevin Feige to Empire.
Jackman also recounts the moment he chose to say yes to Ryan Reynolds' proposal, against Feige's advice, during a road trip:
“I had been driving for an hour, and this question came to me: 'what do I want to do?' And as soon as I asked myself this question, I wanted to do Deadpool & Wolverine. It was clear to me. I drove another hour. I couldn't think of anything else. As I got out of the car, I called Ryan and said, 'Ryan, if you want me, I'm in.'”
This comeback will also be an opportunity for the actor to wear for the first time in the cinema the iconic yellow costume of Wolverine. “We almost did it in Wolverine battle of the immortal. But as soon as I put it on, I wondered why we hadn't done it before. there are different sides of Wolverine that we haven't seen before in the films. It was exciting for me.“
Deadpool & Wolverine will be released in cinemas on July 24
