Left-Handed Girl, the new nugget of Shih-Christ Tsou and Sean Baker: trailer

20 years after his first film, Take Outco-signed with Sean Baker,, Shih-Christ tsou Finally comes back to the realization with Left-Handed Girlthe touching portrait of a single mother and her two daughters. Presented at the Critique Week of the Last Cannes Film Festival, it was rewarded by the Gan Foundation Prize at the broadcast.

The career of Shih-Christ tsou is closely linked to that of Sean Baker. The Taiwanese filmmaker met the American director in New York where she finished her studies. After their collaboration on Take Outshe co-produced four baker films: Starlet (2012), Tangerine (2015), The Florida Project (2017) and Red Rocket (2021). In parallel, she began to develop her first solo feature film, Left-Handed Girlwhich took 15 years to emerge.

If she signs alone the realization of this very personal work, based on the memories of her childhood in Taïpei, Sean Baker has participated closely to the project, of which he is credited as co-sequence, editor and producer. Financing this film in Mandarin taking place in Taiwan in the United States turned out to be impossible, and it was thanks to the French distributor the pact that he was able to materialize, after the presentation of Red Rocket At the Cannes Film Festival.

“The film was born from a lively memory: my grandfather told me one day not to use my left hand because it was the devil’s hand,” says Shih-Christ Tsou in the press kit. “By developing Left-Handed GirlI started collecting stories – some coming from friends, others from my family, even unknown. One of the film’s twists comes from a friend who had had a similar experience. This story deeply touched me unexpectedly.“”
