Loki’s creator takes charge of the Avengers and the MCU

Michael Waldron will write the screenplay for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, in addition to that of Avengers: Secret Wars.

Marvel’s successes have been rare lately. Lokiseason 2, was a success and the Marvel studio seems to have decided to bet on its creator, Michael Waldron.

The former of Rick and Morty has just been appointed screenwriter of the next Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. He replaces Jeff Lovenessinitially hired and dismissed at the start of the year after the flop ofAnt-Man 3which was to make Kang the new big villain of the MCU.

The appointment of Michael Waldron therefore seems to suggest two major twists for the MCU. First of all, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will certainly follow in the footsteps of Loki and this biblical finale of its season 2, written by Waldron. Which could mean a secondary role for Jonathan Majors and Kang, more driven by the vision of Loveness. Next, it looks like Marvel is going to give the keys to the truck to Michael Waldron for the long term. Because the screenwriter will also write Avengers: Secret Wars in the process.

Obviously, this is not trivial. The successful creator of Loki is therefore visibly responsible for relaunching the MCU machine.

It will be noted that it was Waldron who had already signed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), the only Marvel to have come close to a billion in box office revenue since Endgame.

It remains to be seen who will carry out Avengers: The Kand Dynasty. Destin Daniel Cretton was recently landed, further proof that the studio has completely revised its copy in recent months. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is due out in May 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled for May 2027.
