Macauley Culkin filmed behind the scenes of Mom I Missed the Plane (and it's so cute)

Macaulay Culkin has an idea for the sequel to Mom I Missed the Plane

The actor talks about the plan he came up with to make a third part of the adventures of Kevin McAllister.

At 43, Macaulay Culkin has yet to say goodbye forever to Kevin McCallister.

In the middle of touring “A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin” – he is speaking during screenings of the cult film for his 35th birthday – the former child star admitted that he would not be “not completely allergic” to the idea of reprising his cult role in a new sequel to Mom I missed the plane. But on one condition: that the concept is perfect. Good news: he already has a plan…

“I have kind of an idea…”says Culkin. “I’m either a widower or divorced. I’m raising my kid, I’m working like crazy, I’m not paying enough attention, and he ends up resenting me. And there… I find myself locked out. My own son refuses to let me in… and he’s the one setting traps for me.”

In the pitch imagined by Culkin, the burglars disappear: Kevin becomes the new prey, faced with the homemade inventions of his son determined to keep him at bay during the holidays. “The house becomes a metaphor for our relationship. My character must be ‘let in’ to his son’s heart.” This is the most successful idea that the actor says he has, and he would “not be completely opposed” to the idea of starring in it.

Remember that the saga Mom I missed the plane made Culkin the most bankable child star of the early 90s, with a first film that exploded at the worldwide box office ($476 million in 1990!) and a cult sequel set in New York in 1992. But from the side of director Chris Columbus, this comeback seems improbable. Interviewed by Entertainment Tonight, the director of the first two films said this summer: “I think ‘Home Alone’ was a very special moment, and you can’t really recreate that. I think it’s a mistake to try to redo what we did 35 years ago. It should be left as is.”

Neither Culkin nor Columbus had participated in Mom, I take care of the bad guys (1997), a third opus since forgotten. Disney tried a reboot in 2021 with Home Sweet Home Alone for Disney+, worn by Archie Yates (Jojo Rabbit), but the reviews were terrible…
