Maestro: Netflix unveils the first teaser of Bradley Cooper’s biopic on Leonard Bernstein
The film about the legendary conductor will be shown at the Venice Film Festival.
The biopic of bradley cooper on Leonard Bernstein looms a little more. Last May, netflix unveiled the first images of Maestro, and Cooper as the legendary bandleader behind the soundtrack to West Side Story.
Now, a first teaser is available. Alternating black and white and color images, the video announces a film centered on Bernstein’s relationship with his wife, Felicia Montealegre, played by Carey Mulligan. In this preview of just over a minute, the duo already shows a great bond that does not weaken over time. Together they will have three children, Jamie, Alexander and Nina.
The teaser also addresses the homosexuality of the composer, who will eventually leave Felicia in 1976. Shortly after, he will return to take care of her, suffering from lung cancer, until her death in 1978.
For his second production, Bradley Cooper tackles a film first thought up by Steven Spielbergwho recently directed the remake of West Side Story. After approaching him for the lead role, he finally handed over the directing to her.
“I offered him to see A Star is Born during post-production, and told him that if he liked it, I could research Leonard Bernstein to understand what film we could draw from it”explained Bradley Cooper last January to the Late Show by Stephen Colbert. His duet scene with Lady Gaga on “Shallow” popped up onscreen, so Spielberg said: “’F***, you’re totally going to direct Maestro!’”. And it is now done.
Maestro will be presented at the Venice Film Festival, which will be held from August 30 to September 9. However, you will have to wait until December 20, 2023 to discover it on Netflix.
