Marave on Prime Video: Ramzy Bedia and Redouane Bougheraba put on potatoes
A little comedy in the world of MMA which owes a lot to its duo of actors.
Georges (Ramzy Bedia) is a scheming sports coach whose wife is leaving him. But when his father falls ill, his little brother Manolo (Redouane Bougheraba), a naïve fairground worker, comes back into his life after 20 years of estrangement. Impressed by his “fairground potatoes”, Georges sees in him a potential MMA champion who would allow him to put his life in order and regain the admiration of his daughter.
There is a little Rain Man (a little bit) in the basic idea of this Maravea comedy without any pretension but which has the good idea of bringing together Bedia and Bougheraba. The duo’s energy is quite insane and allows them to go all the way with perfectly absurd gags, like when Manolo, convinced of having become the greatest fighter of all time, becomes “Houlk” Hogan (wig and mustache included). The film would have benefited from remaining very second-rate and avoiding ready-made emotion, but if we close our eyes to the problems of rhythm – the second part is much more successful than the first – and the absence of formal ambition, there are some real good moments to take in. Marave. As long as the humor of Bedia and Bougheraba is your thing.
Marave, by Adrien Piquet-Gauthier and Nathanaël Guedj, with Ramzy Bedia, Redouane Bougheraba… 1 h 31.
