Masters of the Universe movie has a director and a release date
He-Man will face Skeletor again in a still mysterious adaptation.
In the 80s, when we played Dungeons and Dragons, a tall blond guy with a muscular chest and a magic sword in his hand fought a skeletal super villain while exclaiming: “By the power of the ancestral skull, I hold the all-powerful Force!” It was He-Man (Or He-Man in original version): the most powerful man in the universe. Forty years later, the cult medieval fantasy cartoon of our childhood, the Masters of the Universe will return to the screen for a brand new film signed Travis Knight (BumbleBee, Kubo and the Magic Armor).
The project is led by Amazon MGM following the abandonment of Netflix last November. The official synopsis details:
“A young ten-year-old, Prince Adam, lands on Earth where he is separated from his magical sword – his only connection to his home planet Eternia. After spending two decades searching for him, Prince Adam is sent back to the space to defend his planet from the forces of evil commanded by Skeletor But to challenge such a powerful enemy, Prince Adam will first have to unravel the mystery of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the world. the universe.”
According to Variety, no casting has been revealed.
This is the third film adaptation of the Mattel doll, which wants to continue to develop its cinema franchises after the immense success of Barbiee. The Masters of the Universe gave birth to two animated films and a first live-action in 1987. Directed by Gary Goddard, it starred Dolph Lundgreen – better known in Rocky IV for his role as Ivan Drago, the Soviet boxer facing Rocky – in the role of He-Man, and Courteney Cox (Friends, Scream) in that of Julie Winston, a teenager from Earth who meets the hero. The film was massacred by critics and shunned by the public when it was released.
Thanks to modern special effects, maybe this time we'll be able to see Gringer, He-Man's pet tiger transforming into a terrible battle mount? We have time to find out more. The release of Masters of the Universe is scheduled for June 5, 2026.
