Michelle Williams Joins the Amazing Cast of Damien Chazelle’s Next Film

She will opposite Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig.

The good news keeps coming for Michelle Williams. Barely crowned at the Golden Globes last weekend for her role in the drama miniseries Dying for Sex (available on Disney+ in France), the former incendiary blonde from Dawson has just been announced in the casting of Damien Chazelle’s next feature film.

Still untitled, the film will largely take place in a prison and will already bring together Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig. The screenplay is by Damien Chazelle himself, who will also direct and produce alongside Olivia Hamilton via their company Wild Chickens Productions.

This new project marks an important step for the filmmaker, in search of a rebound after the commercial failure of the formidable Babylon. A disproportionate fresco on the beginnings of Hollywood, carried in particular by a Margot Robbie more flamboyant than ever, the film was divided and fell heavily at the box office when it was released in 2022.

Nominated five times for the Oscars, Michelle Williams has established herself over the years as one of the most respected actresses of her generation, with notable roles in Blue Valentine, The Fabelmans, Brokeback Mountain, Manchester by the Sea or even My Week With Marilyn. She is currently on stage on Broadway (New York) at St. Ann’s Warehouse, in a new production of Anna Christie by Eugene O’Neill.

Damien Chazelle’s film will be distributed by Paramount Pictures. Despite the setback of Babylonthe Franco-American filmmaker remains one of the most acclaimed directors of his generation: Oscar winner for La La Landhe is also behind Whiplash — also an Oscar winner — as well as the space drama First Man.

No release date has yet been announced for his film.
