Macauley Culkin filmed behind the scenes of Mom I Missed the Plane (and it's so cute)

Mom, I missed the plane! An impossible classic to do it again?

It is in any case the opinion of its director, Chris Columbus, who would like us to no longer touch his 1990 film.

While Mom, I missed the plane is preparing to celebrate his 35th birthday next November, his director Chris Columbus wanted to clear things: he is firmly opposed to the idea of a reboot or a remake of his classic Christmas.

Questioned by Entertainment Tonighthe did not chew his words.

“I think that mom, I missed the plane exists as a very particular moment, an era that cannot be recreated. It is a mistake to want to come back to what we did 35 years ago. In my opinion, you have to leave it as is.”

Released in 1990, the film with Macaulay Culkin in the role of little Kevin McCallister had exploded the box office with 476 million dollars collected worldwide, becoming the second biggest success of the year.

Its suite, Mom, I still missed the plane (1992), also signed Columbus, had garnered 359 million and confirmed Culkin as a global phenomenon. The actor, recently invited of the program Hot oneseven confided to prefer the continuation to the original … for very pragmatic reasons: “I was better paid. I think I have 5% of the net, and also 15% on merchandising. So if you buy a talkboy, I take 15%. Thank you very much. And besides, buy a talkboy for Christmas!”

Disney nevertheless tried the bet of the reboot in 2021 with Home Sweet Home Alonewhich was downright called Mom, I missed the plane! With us and released directly on Disney+. Directed by Dan Mazer, the film took up the same recipe with Archie Yates (Jojo Rabbit) in the shoes of a new Kevin. Alongside Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney and Kenan Thompson, the young actor had to defend his house while his family left for Japan. The result had not frankly convinced the criticism … perhaps validating, a posteriori, the position of Chris Columbus.
