My Best Friend’s Wedding 2? Julia Roberts is for
The actress also says she refused You Have a Message in front of Tom Hanks.
Back in The World After Us on Netflix, Julia Roberts was a guest on the show “Watch What Happens Live” with Andy Cohen this weekend in the United States. And she looked back on her years of romantic comedy, and when a fan asks her which one deserves a sequel, she doesn’t talk about Notting Hill 2but rather My best friend’s wedding 2 !
“I think that, perhaps, The wedding of my best friend could have a sequel. Because there are so many characters in this movie. And I think we’d all like to see what happened to them and how Kimmy and Michael’s (Dermot Mulroney and Cameron Diaz) marriage goes.”
In the process, Julia Roberts reveals she turned down Nora Ephron’s 1998 film, You have a message.
While the director had offered him the role, the star who had just played in Pretty Woman (1990), Notting Hill (1999) and The wedding of my best friend (1997) preferred to pass, leaving room for a third romance between Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan (after Joe against the volcano in 1990 and Sleepless nights in Seattle in 1993).
“I have no regrets because I think it’s all, in a way, a matter of destiny. But I turned down roles in films that turned out to be wonderful, like You have a message. At the same time, it might not have been so great and wonderful with me!”
Julia Roberts goes further and says that this destiny also allowed him to reveal himself. Because Meg Ryan was supposed to be in Women’s gossip (in 1989), the first major job of Julia Roberts in the cinema, which earned him an Oscar nomination. “But Meg was still filming When Harry Met Sally, so I got that role. And then a few years later, I did Closer because Cate Blanchett got pregnant… So I also got luck with good things.”
