Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie unveils its trailer
Meet the new Ingalls family!
It will be difficult to forget the original series. Almost impossible. But the Netflix Ingalls will still try!
The platform today unveils the trailer for its new adaptation of Little House on the Prairie, a video that smells of dust, nostalgia and melodrama. Load the cart and prepare your tissues!
In this video, we discover a new Ingalls family on their way to the American West. Direction the great plains after leaving the forests of Wisconsin. A voice-over, probably that of Laura (played by Alice Halsey, seen in Lessons in Chemistry), immediately sets the scene: a new life, harsh, uncertain… but full of hope. We find Dad Charles (Luke Bracey, seen in Point Break) chopping wood and playing the violin while his family admires him with bright eyes! mom Caroline (Crosby Fitzgerald, seen in Palm Royale), as well as Mary (Skywalker Hughes, Joe Pickett) and Laura, who are discovering their new environment. We start from zero.
“They left everything they knew behind to start a new life on the prairie. Follow the Ingalls family in their quest for a true home” describes Netflix, which speaks of a series conceived as an “optimistic family drama, an epic survival story and an origin story in the American West”.
A simple question remains: how to reinvent a series so anchored in collective memory without being overwritten by the original?
Because yes, the version broadcast between 1974 and 1983 on NBC remains a monument of American family television. A machine of emotions, morals, and bucolic landscapes engraved in pop culture. This new, more modern approach should focus on a more “cinematic”, more ambitious vision. But also, inevitably, more risky.
Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie will be available to stream on July 9. It will do 8 episodes for now. The series has already been renewed for a season 2.
