The 31st Critics Choice Awards ceremony honored a daring and political cinema, that of Paul Thomas Anderson.
Trusting the prize list, One Battle after another won Best Film of the Year, while PTA was also awarded for Best Direction and Best Adapted Screenplay.
Frankenstein And Sinnersgothic duel at the top
With four trophies each, Frankenstein by Guillermo del Toro and Sinners share the other great moment of the evening.
Del Toro’s sumptuous reinterpretation of the Mary Shelley myth was praised for its exceptional visual sense: artistic direction, hair and makeup, costumes… not forgetting the Best Supporting Actor award given to Jacob Elordi, moving as Creature.
For its part, the vampire film anchored in the segregationist America of the Jim Crow era, leaves with the awards for best original screenplay, casting and music. Revelation of the year, Miles Caton, barely 20 years old, won the prize for best young actor.
Jessie Buckley and Timothée Chalamet crowned
In terms of interpretation, Jessie Buckley is crowned Best Actress for Hamnetwhere she plays a grieving mother with heartbreaking intensity.
Timothée Chalamet won the Best Actor award for Marty Supremein the unexpected role of a cunning ping-pong player, a performance hailed for its energy and audacity, beating Leonardo DiCaprio in the process One Battle after another.
Note that the Best Supporting Actress award goes to Amy Madigan, the chilling witch in the horror hit Fainted.
KPop Demon Hunters at the top
Viral success of Netflix, KPop Demon Hunters established itself as Best Animated Film and also won the prize for Best Song thanks to the global hit golden.
The prize for Best Foreign Language Film goes to The Secret Agent Brazilian political thriller set under the military dictatorship, which is ahead of the French representative A simple accident.
Television largely dominated by Adolescence And The Pitt
On the small screen, Adolescence achieves a real hit with 4 awards, including that of Best mini-series. The series also won all the acting awards in its category for Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty. The award for Best Actress in a Miniseries goes to Sarah Snook for the thriller All Her Fault.
In drama series, The Pitt was crowned Best Drama Series, with awards for Noah Wyle and Katherine LaNasa, while The Studio leaves with the trophy for Best Comedy Series.
