Adam Scott faces an evil witch: Hokum trailer
The new film by Damian McCarthy (Oddity) is coming to cinemas in France very soon.
Adam Scott found it creepier than working at Lumon. The star of Severance will soon be showingHokuman independent horror film noticed last March at the South by Southwest festival. He plays a novelist going to an inn in Ireland to scatter his parents’ ashes. Except that it is haunted by an ancestral witch…
The location of the story is not trivial since the director ofHokumDamian McCarthy, is an Irish filmmaker who we have been watching since his second feature film, Oddityreleased last year in France on the Insomnia platform. A horrific nugget already exploiting local folklore with a story of a disturbing wooden golem.
But actually, what does that mean? Hokum ? Damien McCarthy explained it to Screen Rant:
“The word itself means rubbish, something ridiculous. And I think that as far as the film is concerned, it really reflects Adam’s character, who doesn’t believe at all in the local folklore of witches and ghosts. And perhaps there is also a deeper meaning to what his character is going through.”
A sign that McCarthy’s rating is rising, the American distributor Neon (which won all the Palme d’Ors at Cannes) has acquired Hokum. In France, The Jokers Films will release it in theaters on April 29, and have just revealed a short trailer but full of terrifying visions.
