Rafe Spall to play Arthur Weasley in Harry Potter series

The son of Timothy Spall, aka Peter Pettigrew in the films, in turn joins the Harry Potter universe. He will play Ron’s father from season 2, alongside two new recruits: Mimi Geignarde and Colin Crivey.

The Weasley family expands in HBO’s Harry Potter series.

Rafe Spall, star of the series Trying (on Apple TV) has just been chosen to play Arthur Weasley, Ron’s father and patriarch of the famous red-haired wizarding family, in the second season of the series. An arrival which does not lack spice since his father, Timothy Spall, was also part of the original saga: he played Peter Pettigrew, alias Wormtail.

Rafe Spall therefore joins the cast of this new adaptation with Molly Hewitt-Richards, who will play Mimi Geignarde, and Jasper Ambrose, who will play Colin Creevey.

As previously announced, season 2 will be adapted from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the second novel by JK Rowling. Arthur Weasley occupies an important place there, he who is Ron’s father, Harry’s best friend, but also Molly’s husband and the father of all the Weasley siblings.

Mimi Geignarde is the ghost of a former Hogwarts student who haunts the girls’ bathrooms at the school. As for Colin Creevey, he is a first year student who particularly admires Harry, whom he almost never leaves with his camera.

In the films, Mark Williams played Arthur Weasley, Shirley Henderson played Mimi Geignarde and Hugh Mitchell played Colin Crivey.

Season 2 of Harry Potter continues to unveil its new recruits. Kit Harington has notably been chosen to play Gilderoy Lockhart, while Bonnie Hill will play Ginny Weasley, Lenny Rush will lend his voice and features to Dobby and Billy Barratt will play Tom Riddle.

Season 1 of the Harry Potter series will be available on HBO Max in France at Christmas 2026.
