Rays and Shadows continues to light up the French box office
Xavier Giannoli’s historic film passes the half-million admissions mark, but Projet Dernier Chance retains the lead in the ranking.
The gap is narrowing between Ryan Gosling and Jean Dujardin.
After an excellent first week, Rays and shadows continues to shine at the French box office. Xavier Giannoli’s historical film signs a surprisingly solid second week for a 3h19 drama which tells the story of the Collaboration: down only 12% – on an almost identical combination of theaters – Rays and shadows records 210,000 additional spectators and passes the milestone of half a million admissions (515,000 exactly). It’s better thanLost Illusions in November 2021 (440,000 entries after 2 weeks of operation).
Proof that word of mouth works in full force. Still number 2 in the ranking, the French feature film is still getting closer to the American blockbuster Last Chance Project. If it retains the lead in the French box office, the sci-fi epic by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller attracts 260,000 additional spectators (in 700 theaters) and also maintains a reasonable drop in attendance (-22%), to total 670,000 admissions at present in France.
In the rest of a ranking which will be turned upside down today by the entry on the scene of Mario and the film based on the Nintendo video game, we will note the good start of the tender comedy Those who count. In fourth place at the national box office, this dramatic comedy by Jean-Baptiste Leonetti carried by Sandrine Kiberlain and Pierre Lotin attracted more than 160,000 curious people in 401 theaters.
A score much higher than the American novelty of the week: The Ultimate Heirwith Glen Powell as headliner, was satisfied with 77,000 spectators (in 273 theaters). It’s really little.
