Scarlett Johansson has finished filming the new Exorcist

Mike Flanagan’s reboot has just completed production before its release in 2027.

Divine news for fans of pure horror.

The new Exorcist is finished. Mike Flanagan announced on social networks that he had completed filming on his highly anticipated reboot of the cult saga Possessed.

The director shared the news on Instagram with an image of a purple cross, accompanied by an enthusiastic message: “It’s in the box. What an incredible experience. I will be forever grateful to this extraordinary cast and crew.

Filming began last March. This new film will mark the seventh opus of the saga Exorcist and will relaunch the franchise after the abandonment of the project Exorcist: Deceiver in 2024.

Leading the way, Scarlett Johansson plays a young detective confronted with an unimaginable evil force during an investigation. The actress will share the screen with Diane Lane, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Laurence Fishburne. According to initial reports, Ejiofor’s character will be an ex-convict turned priest, while Johansson will also play the mother of Jacobi Jupe’s character.

The cast also brings together Sasha Calle, John Leguizamo, Hamish Linklater and Carla Gugino. True to form, Mike Flanagan has surrounded himself with several regular collaborators, including Kate Siegel, Samantha Sloyan and Rahul Kohli, already seen in several of his previous productions.

Flanagan plays the roles of screenwriter, director and producer here. The film is produced by Blumhouse Productions, Atomic Monster, Morgan Creek Entertainment and Red Room Pictures.

This reboot follows the attempted relaunch led by David Gordon Green, who left the franchise after the very mixed reception reserved for The Exorcist: Devotion.

The French release of The Exorcist is currently scheduled for March 10, 2027.
