Should we sit down to eat with The Rose Family? (critical)

An offbeat OCS creation, this strange mix between cannibalism, black humor and family drama questions the limits of normality, while assuming a rare audacity in France. Too bad the means are lacking.

He had already shocked his world with a well-barred closed session, Homejacking (in 2024). Tigran Rosine is back and has lost none of his desire to shake up the codes. He dares the French genre series with La Famille Rose, where we follow a couple and their cannibalistic children, who go from village to village to feed themselves and satisfy a need for human flesh essential to their survival. A mixture of gore, dark humor and twisted family relationships that plays on our nerves, creating tension with bloody stakes, while assuming a clear desire to create unease.

Certain scenes risk killing your appetite, even if Rosin constantly maintains a form of morbid irony to make the murderous madness a little more digestible. Like Dexter knows how to do so well.

Unfortunately, there are too few resources and it destroys the screen. The Rose Family would surely have deserved a few more euros to boost their decorum, visibly cobbled together with three pieces of string. The writing compensates as best it can, by centering the plot on family drama, carried by the magnetic Shirine Boutella and an unconventional Arthur Dupont (won best actor at Séries Mania), father hen who cooks human liver for his little tribe. The macabre farce has all the makings of a daring gesture: an original series, which does not lack bite and which, beneath its black comedy air, cleverly questions the limits of normality and morality.

La Famille Rose, in 6 episodes, to watch on OCS / My Canal from October 21, 2025.
