Sinners 2: Has Ryan Coogler planned a sequel?
Despite the post-credits scenes, the director explains that he wants to move away from the logic of franchises and therefore that of systematic sequels.
The success of SinnersRyan Coogler’s film, which will be broadcast on television in France for the first time this evening, on Canal +, is not as impressive as the Black Panther. But it is still remarkable for an original creation, without license, without franchise: more than 100 million dollars at the box office, enthusiastic critics and a won over audience. Naturally, the question of a sequel arises. But not for Ryan Coogler.
The filmmaker did not plan to make Sinners 2 and he explains why:
“I spent a lot of time in the world of franchises, and I wanted to move away from it. I wanted to devote myself to an original, personal film, which offers the public something unique” he said in an interview with Ebony.
Coogler wishes to move away from the logic of franchises and therefore that of systematic sequels. He designed Sinners as a complete work, a “complete meal” as he himself says:
“I wanted the film to be a complete meal: starters, a main course, a dessert… I wanted everything to be there. My intention was always to make it something accomplished, coherent, finished.”
It remains that Sinners features not one, but two post-credits scenes, which sow doubt. A mid-credits scene shows the unexpected return of characters thought to have disappeared, while the post-credits scene, more symbolic, takes us back to the hero’s childhood in a church bathed in light.
So does Ryan Coogler still leave himself a half-open door to Sinners 2 ?
