They will give an Oscar to Tom Cruise

The mission actor: Impossible will receive a statuette of honor for the whole of his career, after having missed the win 4 times …

He will finally be able to put a statuette on his fireplace!

Tom Cruise will receive a Oscar of Honor During the 16th Governors Awards ceremony, which will be held on November 16 at Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood. A late, but symbolically strong recognition, for a star who has embodied American cinema for over 40 years in what is most spectacular and invested.

Alongside Debbie Allen (Fame, Gray’s Anatomy), singer Dolly Parton and Wynn Thomas – He will receive Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award -, Tom Cruise will be distinguished for “His exceptional commitment to the cinematographic community, his unwavering attachment to indoor experience and his major influence in the world of waterfalls”greeted Janet YangPresident of Academy.

If he has never won Oscar in official competition, Cruise was appointed three times by the Academy: in 1990 for Born on July 4 (Best actor), in 1997 for Jerry Maguire (best actor) and in 2000 for Magnolia (Best supporting role). He had also been appointed a fourth time as a producer for Top Gun: Maverick In 2022. Performance welcomed, but never crowned. This honorary prize therefore comes to fill a gap and celebrate a filmography marked by cult blockbusters (Top Gun,, Mission: Impossible,, The War of the Worlds) and an extraordinary physical involvement which has redefined the standards of action films.

At 62, the actor-producer is now considered one of the last real champions of the great Hollywood spectacle. This Oscar of honor welcomes a career as much as the fierce defense of a certain ideal of cinema.
