Super Mario Bros. 2, 100% a musical? “Like Joker 2!”, laughs Jack Black
After “Peach, Peach, Pitchounette…”, the actor dreams of singing again as Bowser in the sequel.
Following the enormous success of Super Mario Bros.. in theaters this year – remember that Illumination’s animated film crossed the billion dollar mark in revenue worldwide, finishing in the top 3 between barbie And Oppenheimer– Universal has made the sequel official… but has not yet given any details on its content. What will be the new adventures of Mario, Luigi, Peach and all the others?
Since its release, Jack Black, who doubles their adversary Bowser in the original film, is the only one to give clues. Or more precisely, to express your own desires out loud! After expressing his wish to see disembark Pedro Pascal in the voice casting to dub Wario, here he is who imagines a 100% musical sequel. It must be said that its own piece from the first part (come on, all in chorus: “Peach, Peach, Pitchounette!”), not content with having entered the Billboard 100 of the biggest musical hits of 2023, could well be nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Song…
Here is the official music video for “Peaches”in original version:
Invited to Variety Awards Circuit Podcastthe actor and singer (via his metal band Tenacious D) also has an idea for a title for this sequel: “Bowser’s Revenge.” It sounds good ? “I think it should be made a 100% musical film, a bit like what Todd Phillips is supposed to design with Joker 2“, he also confides. Like Lady Gaga, who must actually sing the song in Folie à deux facing Joaquin Phoenix, Jack Black would therefore be ready to perform new songs, after his romantic ode to the badass princess of Super Mario Bros..
“This sequel project is radio silence, he adds straight away. In fact, the only one who talks about it is me, and I don’t even know if I have the right to talk about it! (laughs) It’s because I can’t wait to come back.”
More seriously, he finally returns to the manufacturing of “Peaches”whose lyrics he co-wrote with Aaron Horvath, Michael Jelenic, Eric Osmond and John Spiker: “Usually I don’t like to mix my music and films too much, unless that’s what was planned from the beginning. I’m very protective of the Tenacious D part of my career. There they gave me sent in a draft, a 30-second idea and I thought it was hilarious. I took it, added lyrics, came up with a melody. And they loved it. They even put my ideas in the film! I do not believe it.”
Super Mario Bros, the film is no better than a big ad for Nintendo (review)
