Teenage sex and death at Camp Miasma: a sensual and bloody comedy (review)
A director is hired to remake the horror film that has haunted her since childhood. Jane Schoenbrun reflects on the traumatic power of images in a joyful, enjoyable and amusing gesture.
It’s the title of the year. “Teen Sex and Death at Camp Miasma.” A long title that sounds like a fake story, a pastiche that’s a little too ironic and hipster to be honest. But make no mistake: certainly, there are geysers of blood of delirious dimensions here, supporting roles who play fake “on purpose”, and funny recreations of old horror films from the video club years, but what drives the transgender and non-binary filmmaker Jane Schoenbrun is rather serious.
