The Battle of Gaulle: a flamboyant trailer for the diptych
Simon Abkarian bursts onto the screen in the General’s uniform, in what will be one of the big events of the summer at the cinema.
It is the most ambitious project in French cinema this year.
The General told like never before through a long biopic in two films, which required six years of work and a colossal budget (around 70 million euros for the whole thing).
A few days before its official presentation in Cannes, The Battle of Gaulle: The Iron Age is revealed through a long and sublime trailer, which already promises a grandiose historical epic, directed with impressive care by Antonin Baudry. The filmmaker of Wolf Song also tells in the new First (available on newsstands and on our online store) how he approached the myth. Obviously, in an unconventional way, judging by this flamboyant, stunning video, in which Simon Abkarian plays a devious, scathing Grand Charles brimming with charisma.
Synopsis: “June 1940. France collapses and signs the armistice. Amidst the chaos, one man refuses to give in. Alone against everyone, this unknown general escapes to London to save what remains of a dream: freedom. Without army, without support, without hope. But with a crazy conviction: France, his France, has not laid down its arms. He attempts a final bet: to convince the world that the Battle of France is neither over nor lost. Reality is stubborn, and proves him wrong. But little by little, shadowy resistance fighters, rebellious high school students, determined soldiers rise up around him in England, France and Africa. Their faith, their audacity, their rage for freedom defy History which seemed written in advance.”
In the cast, we will also see Simon Russell Beale, Florian Lesieur, Benoît Magimel, Mathieu Kassovitz, Loïc Corbery, Anamaria Vartolomei, Niels Schneider, Félix Kysyl, Karim Leklou, Tom Mison, Kacey Mottet Klein, Thierry Lhermitte, Campbell Scott, Grégoire Colin, Daniel Betts, Pip Torrens, Stephen Campbell Moore, Anthony Calf..
The Battle of Gaulle: the Iron Age will be released in cinemas on June 3, 2026. Then, a month later, The Battle of Gaulle: I write your name will be seen in theaters on July 3, 2026.
