The God of War series has found its Thor

Icelandic-American actor Ólafur Darri Ólafsson seen in Severance will play the God of Thunder in the Prime Video adaptation.

Thunderbolt! The future God of War series has just found its Thor. And not just any one. Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, who we recently saw in Severance, was chosen to play the Scandinavian God in the TV adaptation of the cult PlayStation game, produced by Amazon Prime Video.

As a reminder, the series will follow Kratos and Atreus, father and son, embarked on a journey as spiritual as it is brutal: scattering the ashes of Faye, missing wife and mother. A funeral quest that turns into an intimate odyssey, in the heart of a ruthless ancient world. Kratos tries to teach his son how to become a better god… while Atreus tries to teach his father how to become a man again.

And Thor in all this? Amazon is teasing a version far from the flamboyant superhero. According to the official character description, the God of Thunder is a mountain, a battle-worn veteran, haunted by an ancient war whose consequences still haunt him. A former loyal soldier of Asgard and his father’s right-hand man, today he is nothing more than a shadow of himself: a colossus drowned in alcohol, who tries to forget the price paid. He keeps his wife and children at a distance, which only accentuates his isolation… but beneath the surface, the power (and danger) of the God of Thunder remains intact, ready to explode.

Ólafsson joins a previously announced cast: Ryan Hurst (Kratos), Max Parker (Heimdall) and Teresa Palmer (Sif).

Directly ordered for two seasons, God of War is currently in pre-production in Vancouver. Writing, executive producing and showrunner: Ronald D. Moore. No release date yet.
