The Last of Us: filming of season 3 paused due to the World Cup
Football will take the United States and Canada by storm in the coming weeks, which risks impacting certain current productions, particularly in Vancouver.
Even the end of the world can’t compete with a football World Cup.
Fans of The Last of Us can rest assured: season 3 is still on track. But according to several American media, production of the HBO event series was recently paused for a few weeks in Vancouver, where filming is currently taking place.
According to information from the official British Columbia Productions Directory, the series (which appears under the working title “Calm Current”) is on hiatus between June 1 and 28. A break which generally corresponds to the dates of the Football World Cup (June 11-July 19). No official explanation has been communicated by HBO regarding the break, but various sources suggest that preparations for the next meetings could have complicated certain logistical operations in Vancouver, pushing the production to temporarily suspend its activities.
The city on the Pacific coast will host around ten matches which will bring a vast flow of tourists to the city and its infrastructure. Notably, two of Canada’s group matches will be played in Vancouver, which will also host a round of 16 and a round of 16 match.
Under these conditions, the (numerous) American productions filming in the Vancouver area risk having to deal with these football nuisances for a month. And those that have the means – like the HBO series – will undoubtedly prefer to opt for a one-off interruption.
Filming for season 3 of The Last of Us began on March 2 and is scheduled to continue until November 27, proof that it is more than a real production stoppage.
