The Umbrella Academy season 4: a musical detail is hidden in the new trailer
You have to listen carefully and know the origins of the series to get your hands on this Easter egg.
Viewers’ favorite dysfunctional family is back for a new and final rescue mission. Save who? The world, as usual. Because with the Hargreeves, temporal chaos is never far away. After a first trailer that suggested that Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Alison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Diego (David Castaneda), Luther (Tom Hopper), Viktor (Elliot Page) and the others were going to have to acclimate to a life without power, the new trailer released earlier this week confirms that they are back and completely unleashed! For this fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy, ‘the tentacle boy’, Ben (Justin H.Min), is at the heart of the plot – he is even the key to understanding what is going on behind these time travels.
Umbrella Academy: the crazy trailer for season 4 that still wants to save the world!
Five (Aidan Gallagher) and Lila (Ritu Arya) will team up again to try to uncover the secrets of time. Facing them, the Guardians, a kind of conspiracy theorists convinced that the world is only an illusion. Among them, a strange couple formed by Nick Offerman And Megan Mullaly.
Between the madness and the explosion of the fights, there was a detail that should not be missed. After “The Final Countdown” by the group Europe, diverted on occasion into “It’s the final timeline”, the new soundtrack of the trailer is younger but no less significant: “The End” by the group My Chemical Romance.
While the title says a lot about this latest season, it’s more interesting to note that the singer of this rock band, Gerard Way, is none other than the creator of the comics that originated the series. Created in 2007, The Umbrella Academy is unlike anything the comic book landscape knew at the time. Inspired by his desire to reconnect with his passion for comics, the singer had the idea of making his own comics. In 2019, interviewed by Rolling Stones On the occasion of the release of season 2, Way explained that behind each character was a part of My Chemical Romance:
“Being in a band is like being in a dysfunctional family, and all of these personalities are very distinct and important – not just the band members, but the people you meet on the road and the crews you work with. A band is by definition a dysfunctional family, so yes there’s a little bit of me in all of these characters, and there’s a little bit of the other members in the characters (…) We were dealing with fame and notoriety, and the characters experienced that in the comics and the show as well.”
With this musical choice, Netflix reminds us who is behind it The Umbrella Academy. And this is not the first time that such a easter egg is slipped into the series. In the first season, the most attentive may have noticed that the review written on the back cover of the autobiography written by Viktor (Eliott Page) – Vanya at the time – was attributed to a certain Gerard Way – the same man, creator of the comics.
As for the lyrics of “The End,” they seem to evoke a rescue gone wrong: “Save me / You can’t / (If you hear me) / (Run away).”
This does not bode well for this fourth season, consisting of six episodes and which will begin on Netflix on August 8.
