There's one detail that Ryan Gosling would have liked to change in La La Land
A “mistake” which ended up on the poster of Damien Chazelle’s film.
At the heart of the promotion of The Fall GuyDavid Leitch's action comedy that pays homage to Hollywood stuntmen, Ryan Gosling revealed to Wall Street Journal why he didn't want no longer accept roles that are too dark. The actor, however remarkable in Half Nelson Or Only God Forgivesexplained that something clicked while turning La La Landand says that now he chooses his films with his wife, Eva Mendes, for the sake of their family above all.
During this confessional interview, the 43-year-old actor was asked another question about his career: If there was one film he would like to return to, what would it be? Here too, the answer is La La Land, released in cinemas in 2017. And the reason is quite surprising.
“There is a moment in this film that haunts me, he confides about Damien Chazelle’s hit musical. We're dancing, Emma and I, and I didn't know when I was shooting this scene that it would inspire the poster for La La Land. We were supposed to raise our arms, and I thought it was cool to break the movement of my hand. However, everyone told me that it wouldn't be any cooler, but I was certain of the opposite.
Now, when I see the poster, which happens all the time, I say to myself: 'You know what would have been really cool? To make the movement planned at the start!' I killed the energy of this scene. I call it the sequence La La Hand.”
La La Land: Ryan Gosling sings and plays the piano, but he doesn't whistle
The scene in question is crucial in La La Land : this is the piece “Lovely Night”, during which the characters of Mia and Sebastian sing all the bad things they think about each other, regretting losing such a beautiful evening together. Staged on the heights of Hollywood, it offers a piece of dance and tap dancing in homage to classic musical works, Let's sing in the rain on your mind. Paradoxically, the more the lyrics emphasize their lack of chemistry, the closer their bodies get, and end up agreeing almost in spite of themselves…
It is in fact this duo, Emma Stone with her yellow dress and Ryan Gosling in a suit, which inspired the official poster of the film, as well as the cover of its soundtrack. The image is therefore indeed one of the first that comes to mind when we think of La La Land. So, did its lead actor ruin it? Would the film deserve to be remade to repair this bad position of his hand? In the editorial office, we're not as tough as Gosling: when he came out at the cinema, we fell in love with La La Landwhich can now be (re)watched on First Max.
