Timothée Chalamet has not digested having lost the Oscar for Best Actor
“People can say whatever they want…”
At least he’s not pretending.
In a new interview with VogueTimothée Chalamet returned to his second Oscar nomination… and the bitter taste of defeat.
The actor obtained his first nomination for Best Actor at the age of 22, thanks to Call Me by Your Name by Luca Guadagnino, becoming the third youngest nominee in history in this category. He lost to Gary Oldman in The Dark Hoursa biopic about Winston Churchill. So he too made his biopic. and a second nomination fell this year, for his incarnation of Bob Dylan in A complete stranger by James Mangold. But again, defeat! Chalamet was defeated by Adrien Brody for The Brutalist. And even though he’s not yet 30, the actor admits that it stings:
“If there are five people in a ceremony, and four come away losers… Don’t you think that these four are disgusted? You can imagine that these four actors are at the restaurant that same evening saying to themselves: ‘What the hell! I didn’t win!’
Even if Timothée Chalamet has no resentment towards his competitors, he concedes:
“I’ve met actors who are incredibly generous, without ego, and maybe some say to themselves: ‘It was fun.’ But I know many are actually thinking, ‘Fuck! Piss off!’ You could call me stubborn, a guy who tries too hard. People can say whatever they want. But it’s me who’s here, going through all of this.”
At the same time, the magazine asked Timothée Chalamet if he would like to return to television one day, he who began his career in series, notably playing in season 2 of Homeland. And his answer is, again, clear: “No” !
He will soon be in Marty Supreme (A24), a sports comedy-drama which will be released on February 18, 2026 in France.
