We live in a simulation: Le Vertigo by Quentin Dupieux has a… surprising aesthetic

For his first animated film, Dupieux does nothing like everyone else and adopts a very retro look. In the vocal cast, we will find Alain Chabat, Jonathan Cohen, Anaïs Demoustier.

It was a surprise when the Directors’ Fortnight selection was announced: Quentin Dupieux will be present at the closing (in addition to a Midnight Screening with Full Phil) to unveil an animated film titled Vertigo. The story? “ Jacques goes to his friend Bruno to tell him important news: all of humanity lives in a simulation… »

This is obviously very desirable, but it is nothing compared to the aesthetics of the feature film, visibly shot in live shots (with motion capture), before the images are transformed into 3D using Blender software. The result is as reminiscent of Sims than the games of the first PlayStation, but we easily recognize the faces of Alain Chabat, Jonathan Cohen and Anaïs Demoustier (a little less Jean Marie Winling).

The 3D work seems to be carried out very quickly, since Quentin Dupieux and his animators managed to model the general delegate of the Fortnight, Julien Rejl, just a few hours after the press conference announcing the announcement (see the second slide on the Instagram post below).

For now, Vertigo has no release date.
