What next for the Karate Kid saga after the end of Cobra Kai?
Ralph Macchio talks The Karate Kid: Legends and the legacy of Daniel LaRusso.
It’s not quite finished yet. Season 6 of Cobra Kai still has one last chapter to present to fans of Karate Kidon Netflix. This part 3 will be broadcast on February 13, 2025 and will mark the conclusion of the series.
But not the end of the franchise started in 1984.
“It’s the right time to end the series in the best way“, comments (via Variety) the actor Ralph Macchiowho has already planned to revive his cult character against Jackie Chanat the cinema, in the future film The Karate Kid: Legends.
The story will take place three years after the events of Cobra Kai : “It was not a simple decision, because we wanted to protect the character of Daniel LaRusso, the end of his story and we wanted to protect the entire legacy of the Miyag universei” Macchio continues. “Once we were able to agree that the story of Cobra Kai should lead into the new film – even though they are separate ecosystems – it all made sense to me. I started on the big screen. Isn’t it great to end on the big screen?”
THE Karate Kid has changed a lot since the 1980s and Ralph Macchio just turned 63 in real life (ten older than Pat Morita when he played the wise old man in the first film!). SO The Karate Kid: Legends could well mark Daniel’s last salute: “I don’t want to do too much with this beloved character. He’s getting older like me. Now there might be other areas to explore with him too… Never say never.”
Especially since the creators of Cobra KaiHeald, Hurwitz and Schlossberg, want to make a new spin-off series, which would tell the origins of Mr. Miyagi and which Ralph Macchio wants to help give birth.
In the meantime, the actor will receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And it will be placed right next to that of Pat Morita (Miyagi). “It’s just wonderful at this point in my life!“
