Why Lily-Rose Depp was ‘traumatized’ by Edward Scissorhands

“Everyone was so mean to him…I was really upset.”

Edward Scissorhands is your favorite movie of the entire career of Tim Burton ? This is not the case of Lily-Rose Deppbut she has a very specific reason for having kept a bad memory of this success which greatly contributed to launching her father’s career, Johnny Deppin 1990.

The 25-year-old actress recently told Harper’s Bazaar UK that she had been “traumatized” by this fantastic film which has nevertheless moved millions of spectators since its release. If she was embarrassed during her viewing, it was not so much because of the physical appearance of the main character, who has long shears for hands and multiple scars on his face, but because Edward is rejected by the society.

“I was traumatized by Edward recognizes his daughter. Not because I found him scary, but because everyone was so mean to him…I was really upset.”

Lily-Rose continues by evoking in particular one of the ending scenes, when the inhabitants of the suburbs turn against Edward:

“I remember being petrified by that scene, which is strange because I don’t have many memories of when I was so young. It’s a difficult childhood memory.”

Lily-Rose then explains that she has often been attracted to the characters who are supposed to be the monster of the story. A description that obviously fits the vampire of his new film, Nosferatu.

“Edward is the good guy and Nosferatu is kind of the bad guy, she said, but part of me feels a little empathy for Nosferatu. I mean, am I sick of feeling this way?”

Nosferatu is currently in cinemas. Here is its trailer:
