Why Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis aren't in Ghostbusters: The Frozen Menace
Dana Barrett had made an appearance in Afterlife… The threat of ice did not follow through.
The new Ghostbusters film is an anthem to reunions! The veterans of the gang of New York hunters team up with the new faces ofGhostbusters: Legacy (Afterlife) In Ghostbusters: The Ice Threat. Even Janine Melnitz (Annie Potts) is in it!
And yet, no trace of Sigourney Weaver nor of Rick Moranisnotable characters of the first two Ghostbusters.
The star ofAlien played Dana Barrett, love interest of Peter Venkman and reappeared as a guest star in the post-credits scene of Ghostbusters: Afterlife. But she's not back for Ghostbusters: The Ice Threatno more than Louis Tully, the clumsy accountant played by Rick Moranis.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director Gil Kenan explains that the creative team simply didn't think Dana Barrett would fit well into the script:
“Jason Reitman could answer this question better than I can. But his appearance at the end of Ghostbusters: Legacy doesn't have much to do with The Frozen Menace. Dana Barrett is great in those movies, but he doesn't “There was no story for Dana Barrett in The Frozen Menace. But if we get a chance to make more movies, I'd like Dana to come back and be able to do new things in those stories.”
As for Rick MoranisGil Kenan reveals: “We never wrote a role for Louis Tully in The Ice Menace. We had enough characters in this story. Even if I adore Louis, an indelible element of Ghostbustersand that I'm a big fan of Rick Moranis.”
