Will Negan and Maggie end up as a couple in The Walking Dead: Dead City?
The idea seems totally improbable given their history. However, at San Diego Comic-Con, Jeffrey Dean Morgan had fun reviving speculation…
Since the launch of The Walking Dead: Dead City, some fans have imagined an unexpected development in the relationship between Negan and Maggie. A hypothesis which seemed unimaginable, however, as their past is marked by a trauma impossible to erase: in the first episode of season 7 of The Walking Dead, Negan brutally assassinates Glenn, Maggie’s husband, in one of the most striking scenes of the series.
During San Diego Comic-Con, a fan still dared to ask the question that was burning on the lips of part of the public: will Negan and Maggie end up together?
Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s response immediately set the room on fire.
“I’m going to say yes,” he said with a mischievous smile, triggering cheers and laughter from Hall H. But clearly, it was a little provocation that seemed like a joke, while Lauren Cohan dismissed this idea by putting things into perspective:
“It’s crazy how much people always want this kind of thing to happen on the shows. But deep down: you don’t really want it to happen!”
The actress believes that a love story between the two characters would betray everything that makes them interesting:
“Anyone who supports a romance between these Dead City characters should drop it. What we have the chance to tell in The Walking Dead is the story of two enemies forced to work together. It’s infinitely more interesting than watching two people get together. Seriously… Look at their lives! Look at the world they live in!”
She concludes, looking disgusted: “No… it’s clearly no!”
The message is clear: despite Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s joke, no romance between Maggie and the man who killed Glenn in season 3 of Dead City, which has just started on Ciné+ OCS in France.
