With Josey Wales, Clint Eastwood already announced Bronco Billy, Pale Rider, Impitoyable… (review)
This western released in 1976 returns this evening on Arte.
While we wait for the release of the latest film of Clint Eastwood, Juror #2which will arrive in cinemas in a monthArte program Josey Wales Outlawone of his first creations. A drama in which he also plays the leading role, that of a farmer who is going to avenge his wife and his son, brutally murdered at the end of the Civil War.
Released in the mid-1970s, Josey Wales quickly became a classic. First has also placed it very high within Clint’s filmography: in second place, just behind Ruthless.
Here is our review: “1976. Clint is not yet the great quiet and melancholy filmmaker of Merciless. For many it is Harry. Josey Wales comes to bring order. This wild crossing of the West accomplished by Clint to avenge the massacre of his family gradually sinks into a certain reluctance to kill and especially because the generosity and humanism weary of the great works to come are already displayed. It is this incredible balance that makes Josey Wales powerful: the hero is a farmer who has transformed into a relentless killer no longer truly alive and not completely dead. Conceived as a kaleidoscopic road movie, Josey Wales actually contains all the forms of cinema that Eastwood will practice. Pale Rider, Merciless… One film connects them all.”
