24 Jump Street: Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum will return to action!
The duo of undercover cops could finally return, twelve years after the last film, in a third part still under negotiation.
After more than a decade of false starts, 24 Jump Street finally seems to be back on track.
According to several American media, Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and Ice Cube are currently in discussions with Sony Pictures to reprise their roles in a third installment of the famous police comedy franchise.
In the production, we will find Rodney Rothman, co-director of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. He also wrote the screenplay alongside Jonah Hill and Meghan Malloy. In production, the pillars of the saga are also back: Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Neal H. Moritz, already at the helm of the two previous films.
Released in 2012, 21 Jump Street revisited the cult series from the 1980s with meta humor. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum played Schmidt and Jenko, two lackluster police officers sent undercover to a high school to dismantle a drug trade. The film grossed over $200 million worldwide. Two years later, 22 Jump Street moved the action to a college campus and did even better at the box office with $331 million in revenue.
A third opus has been discussed for a long time at Sony. For several years, the studio even developed a project called 23 Jump Streetimagined as a crazy crossover with the franchise Men in Black. But the idea was ultimately scrapped despite a storyline Tatum once called “best third film script he’s ever read“.
So just going to never do 23 Jump Street?

One question remains: why go directly to 24 Jump Street ? This is already disturbing a lot of fans on social networks…
But the answer is quite simple: the joke is part of the DNA of the saga. Remember: at the end of 22 Jump Streetwe were shown Schmidt and Jenko carrying out a multitude of undercover missions in medical, culinary, firefighting schools or even in space, in the form of false extracts from imaginary sequels. Enough to justify the absence of 23 Jump Street and extend the running gag.
At this point, only Channing Tatum has reportedly received an official offer to return to the film. Negotiations with the rest of the cast should begin soon.
No release date has yet been mentioned.
