Surprise ! Absent from the selection of Cannes film festivalwe expected thatEmmanuelle bounces back to Venice, where Audrey Diwan won the Golden Lion in 2021 with The Event. Missed again. The rereading of the character created by the author Emmanuelle Arsan will ultimately open the San Sebastian Festival, September 20 in the presence of the film crew, where it was selected in competition.
With Noémie Merlant in the title role, Emmanuelle follows the story of a woman in search of lost pleasure. A business trip to Hong Kong will lead to several meetings, including one with Kei, a man who constantly escapes her. Naomi Watts, Will Sharpe (The White Lotus), Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things), Chacha Huang and Anthony Wong complete the cast.

“Female pleasure is a little-known territory that I wanted to explore“, confided to us Audrey Diwan in the issue of First of January dedicated to the most anticipated films in 2024. The script that she co-signed with Rebecca Zlotowski promises to provide a fresh look at the myth of Emmanuelle in the post #MeToo era.
Filmed in English in Hong Kong and Paris last year, Emmanuelle will be released in France a few days after its presentation in San Sebastian, on September 25.
