The Office: the Christmas sequence that was impossible to film

“I think the team just gave up…”

Brian Baumgartnerthe actor who played Kevin in The Officewas this week’s guest on the podcast Office Ladieshosted by former cast members Jenna Fischer (Pam) and Angela Kinsey (Angela).

And all three remember a cult episode of The Office. A Christmas episode where Michael absolutely wants to be office Santa Claus instead of Phyllis. He even ends up taking Kevin on his lap: “Brian, I remember the time you sat on Steve’s lap as Santa“is laughing Jenna Fischer remembering the filming. “I know everyone in the cast remembers it, because that scene was impossible to shoot!”

In the sequence from this episode entitled “Secret Santa” and broadcast in 2009 (see below), we can actually see the actors in the background laughing. Ed Helms (Andy) and Rainn Wilson (Dwight), but above all Mindy Kaling (Kelly) who can’t keep a straight face:

“If you watch this episode, people are completely cracking up in the background. Mindy laughs. I think at one point, she went out, we see her turn around and leave because she can’t take it anymore. Even Ed dove behind it, into the hallway.”

In the end, the production kept the take broadcast. The best possible at this moment: “I think the team just gave up. They said, OK, too bad. That’s how it will be.”
