Anthony Cordier brings together Laurent Lafitte and Ramzy Bedia in an explosive social comedy
A creaky comedy on social inequalities, a medium class promises to shake the (social?) Consciences at the start of the school year.
Mehdi has planned to spend a quiet summer in the sumptuous home of her parents-in-law. But upon his arrival, a conflict broke out between the family of his fiancée and the couple of guards of the villa. This is the explosive pitch of Middle classthe new film by Antony Cordier which caused the fifteen filmmakers to the last Cannes festival for the fortnight.
The trailer has just been put online and we immediately understand the project … described by its producers like “a Italian comedy, a little black, in the vein of The old moneyfilms by Claude Chabrol or even Parasite“, The film intends to throw a raw light or a sharp look at class reports. At the center of the story, Sami Outalbali embodies Mehdi, a class of class from a modest background which thinks that he can carry out negotiations between the two parties.
The casting brings together Laurent Lafitte and Élodie Bouchez in the roles of wealthy Parisians, owners of a holiday home, facing Laure Calamy and Ramzy Bedia who interpret the local guards of the house. The object of the dispute? The compensation they claim after years working in black, but also to suffer the vexations and contempt of their employers.
Turned in full in the Gard and in Nîmes during the summer of 2024, the film marks the return of Anthony Cordier (discovered 20 years ago with Cold showers) With a work which, between grotesque farce and social drama, promises to be one of the most impactful films of this film school year.
Middle class will be released in theaters on September 24.
