Ben Stiller abandons Severance season 3!

The director announces that he will not direct any episode this year, to devote himself to his other projects.

Thunderbolt for Severance fans!

Ben Stiller, principal director and executive producer of the Apple phenomenon series, announced in an interview with Los Angeles Times that he was going to hand over. He will not make any episode of season 3, currently in preparation. He prefers to devote himself to future films.

In the spring, Stiller will shoot a survival film on the Second World War, telling the true story of a aviator shot in France occupied and involved in spite of himself in resistance. The filmmaker is also occupied by the production of a new component of the Saga Mon Beadère and me (Focer-in-Law), by a documentary devoted to his parents (Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost), by the development of a dramatic comedy on the musical industry for HBO (The Band), and by a project to adapt to the cinema of Rachel Maddow, Bag Man, centered on Corruption scandal of the former American vice-president Spiro Agnew.

“These things take time to materialize, and the more we age, the more we realize that we do not have an unlimited time,” says Ben Stiller to justify his departure.

Inevitably, the absence of the director at the Severance helm is likely to be felt in season 3, knowing that he had directed most of the episodes of the series so far (11 out of 20).

So faced with the concern of the fans, the actor-director was forced to speak on X to clarify the situation. Admittedly, he leaves his chair as a director and will not (or have little) be present on the shoots. But he still participated in the design of the third season. And Ben Stiller even suggests that he could come back to come for the next seasons:

“It’s been eight months since I work full time in season 3 and I’m not going anywhere. We have incredible directors and a team that creates the series. I love to realize Severance and I can’t wait to do it again in the future. I think this season 3 will be the best, because the series continues to evolve.”

Despite everything, the signal is not very good. Severance is Ben Stiller’s series with Dan Erickson. And if the director prefers to devote himself to something else now, we are entitled to wonder if it will have an impact on the quality of future seasons, while history arrives at a pivotal moment.

For the time being, season 3 of Severance has no broadcast date.
