The creator of Squid Game unveils his new series for Netflix

This time it will be a thriller in a casino. Hwang Dong-hyuk will be producer, but not showrunner.

After the global phenomenon Squid Game, which concluded last year with a very successful season 3, Hwang Dong-hyuk is preparing his return to Netflix.

The South Korean creator has just launched production on The Dealer, a criminal thriller set in the opaque and dangerous world of casinos.

The story follows Geonhwa, a successful dealer whose wedding plans are shattered after she falls victim to a massive real estate scam. Forced to plunge back into a world she had chosen to leave, the young woman sinks into the depths of clandestine gambling. To regain control of her life, she will have to reactivate long-hidden skills — a talent that gives her a formidable advantage at the gaming table.

Hwang Dong-hyuk is the main producer but not the creator of The Dealer. The screenplay is by Ohnooy and Lee Tae-young.

Jung So-min (Love Reset, Alchemy of Souls) will play the leading role. She will play this complex heroine, restrained for years, whose exceptional abilities resurface in a universe where every bet can be fatal. Alongside him, Ryoo Seung-bum (Good News, Tazza: One Eyed Jack) plays Hwang Chisu, a debt-ridden gambler surviving thanks to risky bets, soon caught up in Geonhwa’s perilous plan. Lee Soo-hyuk (S Line, Queen Woo) plays Jo Jun, a formidable rival in the casinos, as charismatic as he is unpredictable. Finally, Ryu Kyung-soo (The Bequeathed, Jung_E) will be Choi Wooseung, Geonhwa’s fiancé, a police inspector with a gentle appearance but driven by unfailing determination.

The Dealer will also mark the directorial debut of cinematographer Choi Young-hwan, a recognized figure in the Korean industry.

No release date announced yet.
