The warning cry of Barry Keoghan, mocked on the networks for his appearance

The young Irish star is sounding the alarm after a wave of online hatred which is beginning to impact his life… and his profession.

Revealed by Saltburn and currently showing the film Peaky Blinders opposite Cillian Murphy, Irish actor Barry Keoghan is going through a darker period away from the sets. In an unfiltered interview with SiriusXM (see below), the Oscar-nominated comedian for The Banshees of Inisherin evokes the repeated attacks he suffers on social networks, directly targeting… his appearance!

“There’s a lot of hatred online. A lot of comments about my appearance… It goes a little beyond the obligatory stage, when we say that everyone goes through that… It made me withdraw. I no longer want to go to events, or even go out.”

Mockery that touches him and in complete transparency he admits: “I say it in all honesty: it’s becoming a problem.”

Already, in 2024, Barry Keoghan had deactivated his Instagram account to try to gain perspective. But curiosity – and perhaps the need for validation – still pushes him to look at what is said about him after his public appearances.

“We want to see how we are received, how the film or series is received… and it’s not pleasant actually.”

Result: the actor puts himself aside and explains: “I don’t need to hide…because I’m already hiding. I don’t go to certain places anymore because of that.”

Even more worrying, these attacks are beginning to contaminate his relationship with the game:

“When it starts to affect your art, it becomes a real problem. You don’t even want to be on screen anymore.”

A rare confession, all the more poignant as he also thinks of his son, Brando, born in 2022 from his relationship with Alyson Sandro: “It’s hard to think that my little boy might read all this later.”

Despite everything, Barry Keoghan would like to point out that he can also count on a loyal and caring fan base:

“I’m very lucky to have great people who support me. When I can interact with them, answer their questions… that’s the good side of networks.”

Currently filming four biopics dedicated to the Beatles, directed by Sam Mendes, he will play Ringo Starr alongside Harris Dickinson (John Lennon), Paul Mescal (Paul McCartney) and Joseph Quinn (George Harrison). Release scheduled for April 2028.
