Xavier Giannoli neck and neck with Ryan Gosling at the French box office

Despite its XXL duration and a more limited number of rooms, Rays and Shadows is only a few tickets away from Last Chance Project.

Supported by excellent reviews and currently on the cover of First, Rays and shadows successfully launched in France.

Xavier Giannoli’s historical drama attracted more than 300,000 spectators for its first week in theaters, on a moderate total of 405 prints. A nice score for a long biopic of 3h19 devoted to collaboration, with Jean Dujardin alone in the lead.

Rays and shadows thus offers the best average of the week at the French box office (nearly 500 tickets per print) and takes off even better than the filmmaker’s previous film, Lost illusionswhich had gathered around 230,000 spectators after 1 week, in 452 theaters (in October 2021), before being boosted by the Césars the following spring to reach one million at the end of its career.

We’ll see if Rays and shadows continues to ride its exceptional word of mouth to reach this high. In the meantime, he’s holding his own in this week’s American blockbuster. Last Chance Project takes the lead in the French box office with 410,000 spectators, but in nearly 700 theaters (i.e. a lower average of around 400 admissions per print). The science fiction feature film by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, which exceeds 2h30, is boosted by the presence of Ryan Gosling in the cast and by the Printemps du Cinéma, which was held from Sunday to Tuesday.

What to put Jumpers from a distance. The latest Pixar loses the box office lead but still records almost 300,000 additional admissions and is approaching a million spectators in France.

In the rest of the ranking, we can note the disappointing start of Flash 80 Font. The wacky comedy starring François Damiens and Audrey Lamy attracts some 140,000 curious people in 350 theaters. It’s still better than the other American release of the week, Reminders of Him. The romantic drama has barely 110,000 admissions so far in France.

Finally, we will note that the Fifi gang continues to reap with its Marsupilami : another 200,000 tickets sold and almost 5.7 million spectators in France to date. At this rate, the film should end up around 6 million.
