Netflix’s next Ghostbusters movie is finally moving forward

The upcoming film will be animated and produced by Netflix with Sony Pictures Animation. According to The InSneiderSam Jarvis, known for Dollfacehas been recruited to write the screenplay for the as-yet-untitled project. Before his arrival, several authors had already worked on preliminary versions, including Yoni Brenner (Rio 2) and Christy Hall (I Am Not Okay with This).

Another key move behind the scenes: Paul Kewley, producer on Chicken Run: The Nugget Menacejoins the adventure as creative producer. The production is entrusted to Kris Pearn, already familiar with Netflix with The Willoughbysand animation veteran behind Storm of giant meatballs And Shaun the Sheep.

If the plot and characters remain secret for the moment, the film is presented as a new entry into the universe Ghostbusters from Sony, alongside recent live-action feature films, directed by Jason Reitman who took up the torch from his father Ivan. A way to continue to expand the franchise, this time in animation.

At the same time, Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation are still developing an animated series Ghostbustersannounced in 2022. Produced by Reitman and Gil Kenan via Ghost Corps, Inc., it will mark the return of the license to the animated series format after The Real Ghostbusters in the 80s and Extreme Ghostbusters in 1997, the famous cartoons Ghostbusters who marked their era.

Gil Kenan also suggested that these new projects could respond to each other: “We’re very excited about the stories that are taking shape and how they will intersect with the Ghostbusters stories that audiences already love.”
